Londonwide LMCs conference 2019 round-up

On 12 March 2019 we hosted our annual conference – titled “All Together Now” - at the Kia Oval. The day was a great success with an array of guest speakers who discussed a range of topics relating to the changes in general practice, including working in Primary Care Networks and other aspects of the new GP Contract.

Over 400 people were in attendance for the day. Delegates got to hear from keynote speakers, panel discussions and attend workshops which addressed issues such as the new Contract, digital solutions, workforce and other important topics. Keynote speakers include our CEO Dr Michelle Drage; Sir David Sloman, London Regional Director, NHS England and NHS Improvement; Dr Nikki Kanani, Acting Director of Primary Care for NHS England, Dr Sarah Jarvis, London GP and technology pioneer; and Mobasher Butt, Chief Medial Officer, Bablyon Health.

Dr Richard Vautrey, Chair of the BMA’s GPC, joined us to outline the main changes in the new GP Contract and Dr Krishna Kasaraneni, GPC workforce lead, was involved in a number of Q&A sessions about the Contract during the day. Proceedings were ably and enthusiastically chaired by Dr Ben Goldacre, academic and broadcaster.

The event provided our delegates with the opportunity to discuss topics and issues in a way that supports the development of their own practices, in a safe environment whilst also answering any questions they may have had. On behalf of delegates and Londonwide LMCs would like to say thank you to all the speakers who gave their time and attended our event to provide their valuable input.

Our keynote speaker on digital solutions Dr Sarah Jarvis used her speech to recognise the pressures London GP’s and practice teams may have in their day to day and reinforced the benefits digital transformation could have on their workloads.

Dr Nikki Kanani, used her keynote speech to talk about the importance of transformation and collaboration, enforcing the importance of “putting the health back into healthcare”.

Feedback so far has been positive, with 88% of delegates rating the conference as excellent or good. Specific highlights from delegates included:

  • "The summaries and explanations of key update such as GP contract and Network working was very useful."
  • "Hearing about the new ways of working and the thoughts of others on this topic (attendees as well as presenters."
  • "I thought it was very informative and as a newly qualified GP really appreciate how inclusive it was."

If you attended the conference and have yet to provide feedback please check your inbox for an email containing a link to do so. Completing the feedback form will give you access to the slides used by the speakers on the day and a template certificate of attendance.

The conference was attended by representatives of six media outlets. Sir David’s remarks on reducing ambulance traffic were covered by the Evening Standard. The HSJ and Pulse both covered Dr Kanani speaking about how Primary Care Networks (PCNs) will be formed. Pulse, GPonline and Management in Practice all covered Dr Kasaraneni’s views on the formation of PCNs. GPonline also covered Dr Kasaraneni’s highlighting of premises issues and Dr Goldacre’s views on technology in general practice, Dr Goldacre chaired the conference and chairs the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care’s HealthTech Advisory Board.

We had a good social media presence on the day with over 100 tweets using #LdnGps19 and #AllTogetherNow.

Whilst our Annual Conference is our flagship event, we do also host other events throughout the year. Our list of events can be found here on our website.
