LEAD events round-up July 2017
July was a busy month for the LEAD Programme. We hosted four events reaching out to different target audiences in General Practice.

Safeguarding Children Level 3 training was attended by 25 delegates, comprising GPs and senior members of practice staff who are the designated safeguarding lead for their practice. Delegates received information via various multimedia channels, including YouTube videos and links to statutory guidance. Delegates found the day full of useful information and went away with a better understanding of how to address safeguarding issues. Some highlights from the day included;
- Presenter was excellent
- Interesting and relevant case studies
- Hearing colleagues’ case-based experiences
- Case-based discussion

‘Getting the best out of your life and career’ was a new workshop that the LEAD programme introduced where GPs who are thinking of retiring from general practice could explore their options in a safe environment. The facilitators encouraged participants to consider how they could use their skills to lead a more fulfilling life when transitioning from general practice to retirement or another career. It was a day of reflection and introspection. GPs are not normally accustomed to thinking about themselves and the workshop provided an opportunity to contemplate what the future may hold. The delegates particularly found it helpful to think about practice techniques to improve wellbeing and to meet with like-minded colleagues.
HR in General Practice: Recruitment & Selection was attended by 25 delegates. This training is intended for GPs and practice management colleagues who are responsible for HR management. The day was packed full of useful information and prompted delegates to examine their own processes.
Delegate feedback reflected their appreciation for the depth and breadth of the information provided and the opportunity to ask questions about specific issues affecting their practice. Some of the highlights of the session included;
- Differentiation between conduct and capability processes
- The facilitator was able to answer a lot of questions
- Learnt additional things about salaried and locum doctors that wasn’t expecting
- Step by step procedures
- Useful info on importance of having practice policies, how to follow disciplinary procedure
- Ideas for writing contracts/policies
- The case studies
- Quite eye opening some of the information given
- Confirmation on the whole we have the right policies and procedures in place
Hold the date: our annual Practice Manager Conference will take place on Wednesday 22 November 2017.
