Are you a digital healthcare provider? Have you registered?
The use of technology to deliver regulated activities remotely is increasing significantly with the intention of improving people’s access to healthcare advice, diagnosis and treatment.
Practices need to be aware that if they are delivering regulated activities remotely, they need to update their statement of purpose to state that they are a digital healthcare provider.
The activities covered include, but are not limited to:
- Treatment of disease, disorder or injury
- Transport services
- Triage
- Medical advice provided remotely
- Diagnosis and screening
- GP consultation over the internet
- Providers prescribing medication in response to online forms
Providers must ensure that they satisfy the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, that the care and treatment to be provided will meet the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and its associated regulations.
The CQC may inspect practices registered as a digital health care provider, using a similar framework to their original visits with added prompts to their key line of enquiry (KLOEs).
