Meeting with David Burrowes MP
On 4 November Dr Michelle Drage met David Burrowes, the Conservative MP for Enfield Southgate, at the Gillan House Surgery in his constituency. They were joined by Dr Vicky Weeks, Londonwide LMCs Medical Director for North Central and North East London; Dr Sinnappoo Karthikesalingam, Dr Abirame Sambasivan and practice manager Berrin Buyukarslan from Gillan House Surgery; Dr Katy Bluston from Woodberry Practice and Dr Dinesh Silva from Connaught Surgery.
The meeting was organised by Michelle to highlight the good work GPs are doing and point out some of the challenges they face, including workforce shortages, patient access and overly-burdensome regulation. Hosting the meeting at a practice and bringing in GPs from neighbouring ones meant that David Burrowes was able to get a broad range of perspectives.
Previous meetings with MPs have resulted in letters to the Secretary of State for Health from Tom Brake MP (Carshalton and Wallington) and Theresa Villiers MP (Chipping Barnet). Tom Brake has since received this reply from Jeremy Hunt after he raised the issues GPs have been having with Capita’s Primary Care Support England service.
Back row, L-R: Dr Katy Bluston (Woodberry Practice), Dr Dinesh Silva (Conaught Surgey), Berrin Buyukarslan (PM Gillan House Surgery), Dr Sinnappoo Karthikesalingam (Gillan House) and Dr Abirame Sambasivan (Gillan House).
Front row, L-R: David Burrowes MP (Con, Enfield Southgate), Dr Vicky Weeks and Dr Michelle Drage (Londonwide LMCs).
