May 2018 local election results and Lewisham East by-election

The local elections held at the start of May 2018 have brought about the following changes in local authority control for boroughs covered by Londonwide LMCs:

  • The Conservatives gained Barnet Council from no overall control.
  • Labour gains Tower Hamlets from no overall control

Outside of our area:

  • The Liberal Democrats gained Richmond upon Thames from the Conservatives.
  • The Liberal Democrats gained Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames from Conservatives.

Separate to the local elections, Heidi Alexander,  Labour MP for Lewisham East, has stepped-down from the House of Commons to be Sadiq Khan’s Deputy Mayor for Transport. A by-election is due to take place on 14 June 2018. Heidi Alexander was Shadow Secretary of State for Health from September 2015 – June 2016.
