Patient Online detailed coded record (DCR) deadline is 31 March 2016

This month sees the deadline for enabling online access to patients’ detailed coded record (DCR). Practices have until 31 March 2016 to switch this on.

The latest figures we have been given by NHS England’s (NHSE) Patient Online team show that only 49% of London practices have switched on access to the DCR.

This data is given to NHSE by each clinical system supplier and may contain some errors. However a number of practices have not enabled patient online access. You should  check whether you are one of them.

We know that some system providers do not yet provided the functionality for practices to turn on the DCR. If this is the case in your area, NHSE’s Patient Online team have assured us that you will not be penalised for missing the 31 March deadline and the NHSE Patient Online team will provide an extension.

You can download online resources here:

Your system supplier and local CCG/CSU Patient Online delivery teams should also be able to provide advice and support.

If you have any concerns about implementing online services please contact Jane Nicholls (jane.nicholls6@nhs.net) or Richard Ince (richard.ince@nhs.net) in the NHSE Patient Online team or Dr Julie Sharman at the LMC (julie.sharman@lmc.org.uk).
