It’s LMC election year – get ready to make your voice heard and stand for election to your LMC

Next month you will have a chance to stand for election to your LMC.

Elections take place every two years on a rolling basis and any GP working in the area may be nominated for election. Don’t forget that we welcome representation from all GPs including partners, employed and freelance GPs.

It has never been as important as it is today to ensure that LMCs are fully representative of GPs and their practice teams across London. LMCs play a crucial role in securing the future of general practice and are the only bodies representing the interests of all GPs as providers of primary health services. It's important to get every London GP, partner, employed, locum, new entrant and trainee GP involved in their LMC.

Serving on your LMC can be a rewarding experience. Dr Farah Jameel, a freelance GP from north central London and an LMC member says: “As a growing percentage of GPs choose to work in a sessional capacity, it is vital to ensure all GP voices are represented equitably. More so in changing times where we begin work on new models of care. I've now been involved with my local LMCs since completing my training in 2013, initially in East Sussex and now in London. I have felt welcomed, listened to and my opinions have been valued. More so being a Locum GP, I feel able to draw on a wide variety of experiences which brings a unique perspective at times. Regardless of your involvement in medical politics, or your level of understanding of GP issues, you will be welcomed and fully supported as a new LMC member, as has been my own personal experience."

Nomination packs will be sent out in May for GPs to complete if they would like to become a member of their LMC. Please consider standing to make your voice heard.

Nominations need to be received by Friday 3 June 2016 and the elections will take place from late June to mid July 2016.

Watch out for more information in the coming months.
