Sustainability and Transformation Plans - August 2016 Update
Dr Michelle Drage responds to LMC exclusion from STP process
On 10 August Michelle Drage was quoted in Pulse’s article on GPs being excluded from STP discussions in some areas, saying:
"Excluding LMCs from the table does not mean any practical issues they would raise will go away, instead they will only become known at the implementation stage, where addressing them is complex and costly.
"STP footprints in London should be involving LMCs, the only bodies which statutorily represent all GPs in their areas, and we call upon them to do so."
LMC representatives in Northumberland, Wolverhampton and Yorkshire said they had not seen their local STP plans. Derbyshire has had sight of theirs and Salford has been involved at an early stage.
A&E review rolled into STP process
On 12 August the HSJ reported a standalone review of accident and emergency services at Bedford and Milton Keynes hospitals was being merged into the local STP plan, meaning that the Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire and Luton STP footprint may become responsible for implementing an A&E closure. The original article can be viewed here, with an HSJ subscription.
CCG boundaries and STP areas
On August 3 Management in Practice reported on Cumbria and Lancashire North CCGs’ proposals to re-draw their boundaries. Cumbria CCG, as currently constituted, will be split across two separate STP footprints.
New MCP contract funding linked to STPs
Also in Management in Practice, at the end of July the three types of multi-speciality community provider (MCP) contract where announced. The new care models funding stream which will pay for the contracts is linked to the STP process.
