SNOMED CT update for SystmOne practices

The first phase of the national deployment of SNOMED CT has now taken place with approximately 20 pilot sites taking part. The wider roll-out for SystmOne GP practices will be implemented from 1 April 2020 and completed by autumn that year. Practices will be notified of deployment plans nearer the time.

A two year transition period has now started where dual coding of CTV3 and SNOMED will be used. Data that leaves practices will be converted to SNOMED and data entering the practice will be converted to CTV3.

SystmOne practices do not have to do anything yet unless requested to do so by TPP. At present, templates and protocols cannot be updated until practices go live with SNOMED as a new browser is needed to add SNOMED codes.

Generic webinars and training materials are available from the NHS Digital website https://digital.nhs.uk/SNOMED-CT-implementation-in-primary-care.
