Responsible Oxygen Prescribing
The London Respiratory Network have asked us to re-circulate a copy of the London Clinical Oxygen Network (LCON) key messages for Responsible Oxygen use in adults from 2012. Their advice is to continue to discuss any home oxygen prescription with the specialist respiratory team.
Unfortunately, the London Fire Brigade continue to receive regular call outs as a result of oxygen use causing avoidable harm. As GPs responsible for the care of patients, families and neighbours of those using oxygen, the London Respiratory Network have asked that GPs take any available opportunity to assist patients with stop smoking support in order to ensure oxygen use is as safe as possible.
Please do consider using the NHS England online web-based reporting form to log any known Patient Safety Incidents to the National Reporting and Learning System.
Your local Home Oxygen Assessment and Review (HOSAR) service should be able to assist with any other oxygen queries.
