M word - Issue 29 - Dr Michelle Drage's latest update for GPs and their practice teams

Dear Colleague,

I know you’re constantly being bombarded with surveys that take ‘just a few minutes’, most of which take you away from your day’s core work, but as we at Londonwide LMCs try to support you through this GP State of Emergency, please please please support ours, and strangely, one of theirs. Today.

Dr Michelle Drage

Chief Executive, Londonwide LMCs

  1. Survey 1 – The Londonwide LMCs' third Workforce Survey – closes TODAY.

We recently launched our third workforce survey – asking each of the 1317 practices in our 27 LMC areas to help us demonstrate to the public and media the level of demand on London’s general practices, and how and why practice teams are struggling to cope RIGHT NOW. It closes at midnight TODAY, Thursday 9 June.

The survey is being conducted by ComRes, an independent research agency, and this private piece of research will also be instrumental in informing our strategy and discussions across the Capital over the next year. The survey seeks to understand the challenges your workforce is facing, and how you are working to overcome them.

We will be using some of the information gathered from this survey to update our records and to continue to make the case to secure the future of general practice in London and will report back our headline findings in July and August.

Please complete a response for your practice and help us to make an evidence based case for greater support for London general practice. Each London practice manager and principal GP has received a direct email containing a unique link to the survey. Please let us know if you have not received this or need this to be resent.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

  2. Survey 2 – The NHS England GP Indemnity Survey.

NHS England has created this short survey on indemnity for GPs working in England. It is administered by a team from NHS England and the Department of Health, as part of a review of GP indemnity issues and how they have developed over recent years. All information provided will be anonymous and used solely for the purpose of the GP indemnity review.

The survey should take no longer than five to 10 minutes. It does ask for some specific information which you may wish to gather together beforehand; particularly your personal indemnity costs for 2011/12, 2014/15 and 2016/17; as well as the number of other clinical/medical staff in your practice, how they are indemnified and if/how their indemnity costs have increased.

Due to the short timescale for this piece of work, NHS England will be closing the survey at 5pm on Monday 13 June so please do complete it as soon as possible to ensure your input is counted. Please also pass it on to any GP colleagues in or outside of your practice, a good response rate will show NHS England how indemnity costs are affecting general practice.

AND REMEMBER - TELL IT HOW IT IS and yes, you can skip questions.

As ever - Please do let me have any views on these issues or others at mword@lmc.org.uk.
