The Health Secretary has just delivered a statement to Parliament:

New variant of Covid-19 virus in South East of the UK.
Doubling time is now 7 days.
Not known if these are linked.
Not just in children.
Over 60s also increasingly affected.
London and South East, South Essex, and other areas moved to Tier 3.
It is believed that the current vaccine is highly likely to continue to be effective.
