NHS England Windrush70 Awards
In celebration of the NHS’s upcoming 70th birthday, NHS England will host the Windrush70 Awards on Tuesday 12 June in Manchester. We are encouraging people to nominate NHS general practice workers who deserve special recognition for a Windrush 70 Award.
The awards are designed to commemorate the diversity of the NHS workforce and highlight the positive contributions made by staff from the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and beyond. The awards are celebrating those who are from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds, including those who came from the Windrush generation of 1948. The awards are also open to all BME NHS workers, from south Asian arrivals in the 1960s and 70s to todays 202 nationalities currently in the workforce.
The contribution to the NHS made by those who work in general practice is sometimes overlooked, so it would be great to see some London GPs and practice team members nominated for these awards. If you have come from abroad to work in general practice and have a story to share, please feel free to send it through our communications team: comms@lmc.org.uk in addition to submitting it for an award.
Note: we highlighted the awards in the our March Newsletter with a deadline of 13 April, but the deadline for nominations has now been extended to Friday 27 April.
