Migration Advisory Committee calls for GPs to be added to the Shortage Occupation List

At the end of May the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) recommended that the Government add all medical practitioner roles to the Shortage Occupation List (SOL).

Being on the SOL means that an employer can sponsor a tier 2 visa for an employee from outside the UK or EEA without having to demonstrate they have met the resident labour market test (RLMT). In practice this would mean employers could skip the requirement that they advertise GP jobs to UK and EEA citizens exclusively for 28 days, and can immediately advertise them to UK, EEA and international applicants.

The Government has yet to confirm whether it will accept the MAC’s recommendations, which can be read in full here.
