GMS global sum calculation and data request for atypical population profiles
The BMA have produced a document that details how the global sum allocation (Carr-Hill formula) determines funding for GMS practices. This has been published in response to the Minimum Practice Income Guarantee (MPIG) phase-out changing the way GMS practices are funded. The latest PMS reviews also means a large number of practices have chosen to pre-emptively switch from PMS to GMS. The BMA and NHS England have also issued technical requirements for the 2015/16 GMS contract changes.
The BMA’s General Practice Committee (GPC) are asking LMCs to provide details on practices with atypical population profiles, the financial needs of which may not be accurately reflected in the current funding formula. This is with a view to negotiating some financial protection to support these practices; details on how to submit information will follow separately.
