Application for a firearm and/or shotgun certificate, or registration as a firearms dealer (RFD)

Since December 2021 a new national firearms licensing process has replaced the process locally agreed between LMCs and the Metropolitan Police in London.

GPs who do not wish to participate in the firearms licensing process are still obliged to outline to patients how they can get another doctor to complete the GP section of the form. They should also facilitate access to the patient’s record once the patient has found an appropriate alternative GP.

The following guidance has been updated to reflect the new licensing process:
