Special LMC Conference motions

The motions for the Special LMC Conference on 30 January have been published. Londonwide staff will be present on the day.

Junior doctors' industrial action

London GP practices worked hard to provide services during the junior doctors' strike, which also highlighted widespread public support for the medical profession.

LMC elections

It’s LMC election time again. We look forward to welcoming representation from all GPs including partners, employed and freelancers.

New medical records movement system trial

At the start of February practices will be asked to test the new medical records movement system, using a blank record that will be sent to them.

Queen’s Nursing Institute survey of practice nurses

The Queen’s Nursing Institute has published a report following a survey of 3,400 general practice nurses. The survey found that 32% of London respondents planned to retire in the next five years.

Apprenticeships

The general practice apprenticeship programme is seeking practices to participate in its latest round of placements. Practices are being offered the opportunity to take on a potential apprentice for a three day trial before committing to the annual programme.

Taking the next steps in encouraging the use of online services for patients

Media round-up

On 18 January Londonwide LMCs' CEO, Michelle Drage spoke at a Westminster Health Forum event on the future of health in London, which was covered in GPOnline. Michelle also had an authored piece in the Huffington Post on 4 January, with a New Year’s message for London general practice.

In mid-December the work of the Doctor Hickey Surgery in Westminster with the area's homeless was covered in a Guardian article, as well as a lengthy package on BBC London's evening TV news and an interview with Dr Paul O'Reilly on BBC Radio London's breakfast show. Dr O'Reilly is the chair of Westminster LMC.
