Stand. Vote. Engage – it’s election year at Londonwide LMCs
This year is election year at Londonwide LMCs and it’s never been as important to make your voice heard and stand up for general practice in London. Elections take place every two years on a rolling basis and any GP working in the area may be nominated for election.
This page explains how you can play an essential role in securing the future of your profession by joining your Local Medical Committee.
Please also view this short film from our Chief Executive Dr Michelle Drage about the importance of LMCs and why you should stand for election.
With the unprecedented challenges and threats which GPs and practices are currently facing, LMCs are essential in representing GPs and their practice teams, and supporting them to face those challenges. The LMCs across London do this by working with and influencing NHS England London, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), local authorities and other health organisations, to ensure the development of high quality general practice is supported in your borough.
Your profession and your patients need strong representation and this is your opportunity to make a lasting difference. LMCs with representation from all practice disciplines including partners, salaried, sessional and freelance GPs, and VTS trainees, ensure that a broad range of views are represented. Our recent survey shows that the shape of the workforce is changing, and committees that reflect this are best able to represent their constituents. We would particularly welcome nominations from those GPs who are under-represented on current LMCs.
Please consider standing for election and visit our dedicated election website at www.ersvotes.com/londonwidelmcs to complete your nomination form. The website also includes information on roles and responsibilities for LMC members and a helpful ‘frequently asked questions’ document.
We are also running two network events for you to attend if you would like to find out more about LMCs and the election process. The events will be held on Monday 16 May 2016 and Monday 23 May 2016 at Londonwide LMCs’ offices near to Euston station from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Further information is available here. To reserve your place please contact Marie Vassallo at the LMC on marie.vassallo@lmc.org.uk.
Please consider standing for election and download a nomination form from www.ersvotes.com/londonwidelmcs, providing the names and email addresses of two supporting GPs in your constituency.
All completed forms should be returned to nominations@electoralreform.co.uk. You can also post your completed nomination form to Electoral Reform Services, The Election Centre, 33 Clarendon Road, London N8 0NW or fax it to 020 8365 7013.
Nominations must be received by 5.00pm on Friday 3 June 2016.
If you have any queries please contact lmc-elections@lmc.org.uk.
