Workforce survey closes tomorrow

Our workforce survey closes tomorrow. Take this opportunity to share your valuable input, especially after working through the pandemic, to help make a difference for general practice in London.

LMC elections

Thank you to everyone who nominated themselves to stand for their LMC. Those constituencies which are going to ballot will hear from us in the next few days.

GP Contract and NHS England updates

Details of updates to the GP Contract were released last week. There is also new guidance on ICS structures and the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Appointment mapping guidance

Practices need to complete their appointment mapping by the end of June. Our updated guidance has further details and tips on how to improve your data accuracy.

Firearms guidance and template

Londonwide LMCs has worked with the Met Police on new guidance for firearms licence applications and renewals. The guidance makes it clear what involvement GPs can have, and that it is a chargeable service.

Mask wearing on planes – GP letters

EasyJet’s website says passengers should seek a doctor’s letter if they believe they are exempt from wearing face coverings on flights. Government guidance is clear that passengers do not need a letter.

Long-standing Londonwide LMCs’ employees Dr Julie Sharman and Mrs Jane Betts are retiring this month. We would like to thank them for their decades of service to the organisation, and London general practice.

Media and public affairs round-up

On 21 June, Dr Michelle Drage, our CEO, was quoted in a GPOnline story about equality and diversity on LMCs. On 31 May, Michelle was quoted in an Independent story on how pressures on GPs mean many have opted out of the second phase of the Covid vaccine programme. We are continuing our general practice is open campaign, with the latest video shared on social media this month. 5 August is Cycle to Work Day, we are collecting photos of general practice staff out and about on their bikes to highlight the importance of being active, if you would like to send us a photo please do via info@lmc.org.uk.

We continue to be very active in promoting the interests of London GPs and practice staff on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. If you have an example of general practice doing something well which could make a news story please get in touch. We also support practices that are approached with media requests. You can find details here.
