Reminding patients of Pension Credits

Thousands of London’s pensioners on low incomes may not be getting the Pension Credits they are entitled to, GP practices can help by displaying reminder materials about who can claim.

The Mayor of London, Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Age UK are working to increase uptake of pension credits, with an estimated 120,000 eligible Londoners not claiming theirs. The DWP writes to these people regularly, but uptake is still below what it should be.

Research has shown that information received in healthcare settings is more trusted by the public than letters directly received from the Government, which is why Londonwide LMCs is working with the Mayor’s Office to encourage practices to display materials reminding those of pensionable age that they may be eligible for Pension Credits.

If your practice would like to display these materials, including postcards, posters and a screen static image, then please contact sue.johnson@london.gov.uk or 020 7983 4032.
