Request for hospitals to issue fit notes gets results

Our recent letters to hospital trusts asking them to issue fit notes to patients rather than referring them back to GPs has had a positive response from Imperial College Healthcare Trust, who have rolled out a poster and staff information campaign.

Imperial replied to Michelle’s letter asking them to provide fit notes saying they had produced a poster which reminds patients to ask their doctor for a fit note if they think they will need one and published guidance on their intranet on what are the correct criteria for issuing them.

The full letter and accompanying posters can be read here, Imperial are happy for practices and LMCs to share these posters with other hospital trusts.
