‘Innovative and interesting’ HCA course now incorporates the 15 Care Certificate Standards

“I would recommend it to other HCAs, a very good course”.

“The trainers were excellent”.

“Facilitators have a good knowledge of their subjects and they explained clearly”.

These are just some of the many positive comments about Londonwide LMCs' GP Health Care Assistant programme which now incorporates the 15 Care Certificate Standards as part of the six month training course.

What does the course cover?

The course is a six month – to one year blended learning programme that includes practical online modules complimented by two face-to-face taught days. The training programme covers topics such as infection control, working with children and vulnerable adults and immunisations. The course is aimed at students who are:

  • Switching to being a HCA from another area of health care
  • Developing from a non-clinical role
  • Planning to work as an HCA in General Practice for the first time
  • Looking for a programme that meets the Care Certificate Standards

The Care Certificate Standards are embedded within the practice based competency document and supported through the online units and the first taught day, aiming to have this completed within the first 12 weeks of the training.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Students are required to have time within a practice with an appropriate contract/agreement.
  • Students should be supported within the practice by being given time to attend both taught days and be supported by an experienced practice nurse mentor who can sign off the practice competency document.
  • Students should have a good command of the English language for the academic accreditation of 20 credits at level 4 from Middlesex University.

Is the course accredited?

The programme is professionally accredited by the RCGP and is academically accredited by Middlesex University. Upon successful completion you will be awarded 20 credits at level 4.

How does the programme work?

Taught Days:

The two face-to-face taught days are compulsory to attend and take place at Londonwide LMCs Offices (located near Euston station). Taught Day 1 will take place on 25 January 2018 and Taught Day 2 will be held at the end of the programme, six months later, on a date to be confirmed.

Online Units:

There are 10 online units which contain multiple choice style questions and case scenarios. Students must gain 100% on each unit to pass them.

Competency Document:

Students will need to work through a practice based competency document which contain the 15 Care Certificate Standards. Students will need to work through this document throughout their time on the programme and will need to be signed off by an experienced practice nurse mentor by the one-year time limit.

Written Assignments:

For students to be awarded the academic credits (20 credits at level 4) from Middlesex University, students will need to complete two reflective accounts.

How much does the programme cost?

The programme costs £850 plus VAT. Payment can be made online at londonwidelearning.org.uk.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Programme Manager, Kayleigh Cooper on Kayleigh.Cooper@lmc.org.uk or by calling 02038186244.
