Revised data collection regime
The General Practice Extraction Service (GPES) is due to be replaced by General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR), which will eventually unify all data extractions pertaining to health and social care purposes including planning, policy development, public health, commissioning and research. In order to do this NHS Digital sent out a Data Provision Notice (DPN) to all practices in England on 12 May, with the first extraction scheduled for 1 July.
Individual type-1 opt outs already submitted by patients are still valid and should be recorded by practices ahead of 1 July, including any new submissions.
NHS Digital’s list of actions for practices is available here.
Further information is available here:

Data privacy campaigners have raised concerns over the fact the pseudonymised data will be available to third parties, including academics and commercial organisations. NHS Digital also holds the required information to de-anonymise the data, should it wish to do so.
