Courses and training events round-up

We have recently run the following events and courses to support GP practice staff in meeting the challenges of working in modern general practice.

Effective Medical Chaperoning

This course was attended by 30 delegates who all found that the training met their expectations and needs. Delegates said: they received good guidance on what a chaperone should do; they appreciated hearing about incidents that have happened and why chaperoning is needed; they gained an understanding of the correct training and competence of a chaperone; they learned the roles and responsibilities of a chaperone through a demonstration and real life scenarios; and learned about CQC requirements around chaperoning.

Reflective Practice Masterclass

The third of this series of PHP reflective masterclasses was full to capacity and received positive feedback. A valuable aspect of these sessions has been the opportunity to share experiences and make sense of personal experience as a GP. The final session on 4 December had a similarly strong turnout. Dr Clare Gerada explains more about the mental health challengest that the masterclasses are seeking to address here.

Medical Terminology

This ever-popular course sold-out weeks in advance. Led by Clarimed Medical Training, it is aimed at new and experienced members of staff working within an administrative/clerical role as well as those new to clinical settings. The aim is for the delegate to increase confidence and gain a foundation level of knowledge in the areas of medical terminology and prescription terminology.

General Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant Training Programmes

Our General Practice Nurse (GPN) and Health Care Assistant (HCA) training programmes ran their first Middlesex University accredited courses in November. The GPN programme is accredited with 20 units at level 6 and the HCA programme is accredited with 20 units at level 4.

The taught days run as part of the course were well attended and feedback was very positive.

“The programme exceeded my expectations, quite compact and informative”. GPN feedback from Taught Day One.

“I would recommend the course to other HCAs, very good course”.

The courses run on a rolling programme, GPNs and HCAs can sign up to the programme at any point throughout the year to access the online content.

The next London cohort taught day ones are scheduled for early March 2016.

We are able to deliver the programme for cohorts of students at our London location as well as locally by request. If you are interested in commissioning places on either programme for GPNs or HCAs in your area, please contact Kayleigh Cooper, Blended Learning Programme Administration Manager on Kayleigh.cooper@lmc.org.uk.

If you are a HCA/GPN and would like to receive more information or you are interested in signing up to one of the programmes please visit the HCA or GPN websites.
