Hospital sickness certificate poster

In late May Dr Michelle Drage wrote to London Hospital Trusts asking them to put up a poster which explains to patients that they can get fit notes from hospital doctors and do not need to book a post-discharge GP appointment if they do so. So far two Trusts have responded to say they will display the poster.

Specifically the poster suggests that patients:

  • Please ask your hospital doctor to issue a 'fit note'; they can also issue a certificate to confirm that you have been an inpatient.
  • This 'fit note' will cover the expected time that you will be unable to work, so you don't have to ask your GP for one after you leave hospital.
  • If you have any questions please speak to your hospital nurse or doctor.
