Mword Issue 76 - Dr Michelle Drage's latest update for GPs and practice teams

Mword Heading - Issue 76

4 December 2020

Dear Colleague

I wrote to you yesterday setting out some of the new details we think we know (and some of those that we don’t) about the delivery and requirements of the new Covid-19 Vaccination Enhanced Service (ES).

With things moving quickly, and new information about the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme coming out thick and fast, subsequent enquiries suggest it may be possible for practices to participate in the ES and sign up after the Monday deadline, subject to approval from NHSE (s4.1 of the ES). It also appears from conversations since my last message that Christmas could still be in the balance. Last night PCNs across the country were asked to volunteer to administer the Pfizer vaccine from 15 December. In at least one area, with a deadline of midday today.

It is important to note that the decision to sign this Enhanced Service is on a practice basis, not by PCNs on behalf of member practices. In deciding on next steps, practices need to consider capacity and ability to deliver the requirements set out in the ES.

In addition to our published Covid-19 vaccination guidance, we are analysing the ES papers now with a view to sharing further comments on the practice level contractual details and ramifications later today, in good time for you to consider over the weekend and through Monday. Remember, you do have until Monday 23.59 hours to do this.

Thanks to those who have already been in touch with queries and comments. As ever I welcome your feedback at mword@lmc.org.uk, and as always, know that my team of experts and leaders here at Londonwide LMCs are by your side.

Keep well. Stay safe.

With best wishes

Dr Michelle Drage MBBS FRCGP
CEO, Londonwide LMCs
