We are delighted that Dr Phil Hammond has agreed to chair the Londonwide LMCs’ 2016 Annual Conference ‘We can work it out – powering up London’s primary care workforce’.

Dr Phil is a GP, writer, broadcaster, campaigner and comedian. Described as “passionate about the NHS” and “very funny, honest, clever and moving”, he is well known and well respected throughout the GP community and beyond.

The packed conference agenda covers a wide range of topics, including:
  • 'meeting the London challenge'
  • 'wider determinants of health'
  • 'silver bullets in general practice and primary care'
  • 'practice nursing workforce for London'
You can also choose to attend workshops in both the morning and afternoon on subjects ranging from 'using technology in general practice' and 'improving your CQC rating' to 'building the clinical team of the future' and 'looking after the homeless in general practice'.

What Dr Phil says:
“I hope this conference will begin the resuscitation of general practice in London. It’s a tough agenda, but getting us together to speak up, listen, collaborate and share ideas is a vital first step. The NHS cannot survive or thrive without properly funded and organised primary care. The NHS is funded 25% less than Germany or France, and primary care has itself lost 25% of its share of NHS funding in the last seven years, which was only 10% to begin with. Austerity in secondary and social care, and the challenges of ageing and inequality, means a disproportionate share of the extra workload falls on primary care teams. And yet primary care is not allowed to go into deficit. Staff simply get paid less, less staff can be employed and some practices will simply go bust. This is clearly neither safe nor sustainable for staff or patients."
