Sustainability and Transformation Plans - July 2016 Update

Dr Michelle Drage calls for more LMC involvement

Dr Michelle Drage was quoted in the Health Service Journal’s coverage of our workforce survey calling for LMC involvement in STP footprint planning process:

”GPs feel that the GP Forward View falls far short of what is needed to address the challenges facing general practice in the capital and beyond. If LMCs had been involved from the outset NHS England would have been far better placed to understand the needs of GPs and their patients.

“We are seeing the same mistake repeated with sustainability and transformation plan footprints. Footprints are drawing up plans without speaking to LMCs, the only groups who represent all the local GPs who will have to implement the finalised plans.”

NHS England director highlights opportunities for private sector

NHS England Director of Strategy Michael Macdonnell told the Reform Annual Health Conference that STPs were “very much going to be how we think about the future”, and that they offered private and third sector organisations an “enormous amount of opportunity”, as reported in the HSJ (requires subscription). Londonwide LMCs representatives attended the event.

RCGP put forward representatives

The Royal College of General Practice has recruited 29 GP representatives to feed into the STP footprints, as reported by Pulse.

STP money tied to trust efficiency savings

Hospital Trusts have been told that they will only have access to £1.8bn in STP funding if they agree to make efficiency savings, The Guardian reports.
