Mandatory reporting requirements for GMC and NHSE Performers’ List
There have been a number of recent cases of GPs not being aware of the extent of the requirements for reporting an untoward occurrence to the GMC and/or NHSE under the Performers’ List regulations and have inadvertently breached the requirements of the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice” or the NHS Performers’ List Regulations.
These are links to extracts from the relevant requirements which list those occasions when a GP is required to inform the regulator or NHSE:
- GMC requirements for reporting untoward occurrences
- NHSE requirements for reporting untoward occurrences (see page 15)
We strongly recommend that GPs are aware of these requirements and would echo the GMC advice that if not sure, GPs should ask their MDO, the BMA or our GP Support Directorate. The GMC has a contact form and GP Support can be emailed: GPSupport@lmc.org.uk
